The New Generation Society of Lawrence (NGSL) is dedicated to providing its membership with opportunities to pursue life-long learning, stay active in the Lawrence community, and support local philanthropic causes.
NGSL's mission is to help its members stay entrenched in the stimulating environment provided by the University of Kansas, the Lawrence community, and the region. Its core membership is comprised of energetic, curious adults who seek increased opportunities to expand their intellectual and cultural horizons.
The only qualifications for membership are an interest in our programs and a willingness to pay both annual dues to cover our administrative costs and fees for any programs in which you choose to enroll.
The New Generation Society was formed in 1997 with the vision of Dr. Lyn Smith, Robert Cobb, Nancy Helmstadter, Bill Hougland, Bob Mueller, Barbara Nordling, Bill Salome and Gerry Smith as incorporators. The organization they created, along with its fascinating programs, continues. Those programs are perhaps more satisfying, valuable and necessary in today's environment than ever before. This will be a year of transition as NGSL works to improve its essential relationship with the Hall Center for the Humanities. We plan to adopt software to make it feasible to enroll from home and to automate many of the lists and reminders that we depend upon. We're certain there are many interesting and intriguing events and some delightful activities waiting for you this semester. And you won't even have to get dressed for them--they're all on Zoom--at least until we once again can meet in person. We began our year as co-presidents of New Generation Society of Lawrence in mid-September 2020. Despite the challenges of sustaining the organization during the COVID epidemic, we and the other members of the Council are working hard to provide the eclectic variety of programs that NGSL members are accustomed to having. ~Ralph and Martha Gage
